Welcome to Running Summits

My name is Emma, and I am a Lydiard running coach, Personal trainer and Hill and Moorland Leader.

I have been running for almost 8 years now.  I have been practicing as a coach now for the last 2 years. I predominantly coach people online, working with people running 10k-100 miles. I have helped people achieve their first Ultra and PBs in the 5/10k, half marathon and Marathon on both road and trail. I am currently undertaking my qualification as an Ultra running specific coach.

What I really love about being a coach is helping people dreams become reality. Changing limiting beliefs into achieving goals. This makes me happy! I see coaching as a partnership, we work together to build you a plan to suit you and your needs. I believe in educating my clients so they can make informed decision about what is best for them and their bodies.

A training plan will look very different for everyone based on their goals and their time available. I am a big believer in rest, recovery and balancing the work to allow the body to adapt and recover is key. In training we work on both the physical and mental sides of training, to really help you reach your full potential. I also help you get to grips with nutrition for racing and training, and strength training to help build an injury proof body.

As a coach I try and take the stress out of building a training plan so all you need to do is train! Together we can achieve anything!

About Me

I came to running later in life at the age of 37, after having my second child. I did couch to 5k (after 3 attempts!) joined a local running club and quickly got hooked!

I loved the way running made me feel mentally and physically. It showed me I was much stronger than I thought I was and gave me a sense of freedom that I hadn’t felt for a long time. I quickly moved from the road to the trail and up the distances. I fell in love with the hills and trails and found my happy place on the top of the summits! Ultra running is my real passion and challenging myself to run in new places and terrains is what I enjoy the most.

Running has really changed my life, and I want to help others change theirs.

That is why I became a coach!

I have been working with Emma for over a year now and she’s brilliant.  I had been running for about 18 years when I first asked Emma to be my coach.  And despite having run a lot of races, I felt that I needed help.  I was spending so much time looking into different training schedules and second guessing what I was doing that I was getting exhausted!  Emma listens to me and what my aims/objectives are and then comes up with my plan.  I have had no injuries since working with Emma and my running is consistently improving.  And it’s so brilliant to have a quiet mind!  Now I just look at my plan and do what I’m told!!  Having 1:1 catch ups every month keeps Emma up to date and my plan in line with my objectives or any changes I’ve needed to make.  And at any time if I need my plan altered Emma is extremely responsive in doing that for me.  My very long-term aim is to become the oldest person to run a marathon and I’m hoping that Emma will coach me to that!!

I am not really one for high aerobic work outs so the strength sessions instantly appealed to me as an exercise class. The structure is very easy to follow and there are different options for each exercise based on ability, so you just do what you can. Being able to do the workouts in your own time and at your own pace, is a massive benefit to me as trying to squeeze in going to the gym is very tricky! I had only been running for a few months when I started the class but I could see the impact in weeks. My muscles felt stronger and tighter (always a plus!) I was finding I could run for longer and generally felt much fitter. Definitely a class worth doing!

Since training with Emma, my confidence has grown as a trail runner. I have learned about running keeping an eye heart rate zones but also on my perceived effort which is something I had never done before. My long runs are a lot more enjoyable now as I don’t feel like I need to keep checking my pace. The strength training is also brilliant, all running specific and love how sometimes she includes videos where we can exercise along with her. I have been with Emma just over 6 months and could not be happier.

I have been working with Emma from Running Summits for over a year now. She is very knowledgeable, and has a great way of showing you what you need to do to achieve your goals. Also sharing some of the science and research which shows that’s the right way to go about it. She has such a great energy about running that you always feel enthused after you’ve had a catch up call. Emma has helped me with both trail and road running targets, and she easily adapts her plans for the different situations. I would highly recommend Running Summits!
